Filling in the Gaps

Hi boys and girls, welcome to the All Star Break!

With Moises Alou out of the picture, and Ryan Church being questionable, the Mets are definitely looking around to fill in some of their outfield holes.

The current word is the Mets are looking to get Jason Bay and may cost outfield prospect Fernando Martinez.  First, let’s take a look at Bay.

Bay is a 29 year old OF, making $6M and currently hitting .287 with 19 HR’s, 56 RBI’s, amounting to a .918 OPS on a bad Pirates squad.  Not bad.  Let’s take a closer look.  Over his career, Bay has very good numbers at Shea.  He’s batting .303 with a .957 OPS with 5 HR’s in 76 plate appearances.  So, how about pre and post All Star Break numbers?  Bay slightly tails off after the break according to his career numbers, but not by much.

So overall, if the Mets are going for the championship this season, Bay should be a great addition to the Mets, probably worth trading Fernando Martinez for and should pay off for the next 2-3 years.

Tatis is probably going to continue being a starter for the rest of the season, possibly sharing a little time with Endy Chavez.

I am almost positive that Omar Minaya will be making a move before the trade deadline, whether it be Bay, Nady, or even pitcher A.J. Burnett.  In any case, let’s hope the break won’t cool down the Mets too much.  Enjoy the HR Derby and All Star Game!

Hey everyone,

My name is Paul and I’m a NY Mets fan.  I’ve been meaning to write a blog about the Mets and baseball in general as it is my favorite sport but never got around to it.  I won’t be posting on every game, but I will try to do the best I can with my game analysis and with things happening around the MLB.

As always, feel free to leave me a comment!  Thanks for dropping by!

The Mystique of Tatis

If you’ve been keeping track of the Mets recently, you know that Fernando Tatis has been a major catalyst in their success as of late.  First activated in May, he provided an instant spark to the Mets’ offense, especially in the series against Florida.  Then he hit a snag which led him to warming the bench, and ultimately led to the a second downward spiral after a little success.  Then all of a sudden, Tatis is back among the starters due to injuries and he’s hitting and driving in runs.  So, what’s the deal with Tatis???

Here’s the big number that no one seems to be mentioning: .462

Since his debut in May, Tatis is hitting .462 with runners in scoring position and playing .326 ball with men on base.  This is including his so called slump in June.  Can you say clutch?  With that kind of stat, I would shift around the order and see what he could do in the #2 spot behind Reyes who always seems to be in scoring position.
