If you’ve been keeping track of the Mets recently, you know that Fernando Tatis has been a major catalyst in their success as of late. First activated in May, he provided an instant spark to the Mets’ offense, especially in the series against Florida. Then he hit a snag which led him to warming the bench, and ultimately led to the a second downward spiral after a little success. Then all of a sudden, Tatis is back among the starters due to injuries and he’s hitting and driving in runs. So, what’s the deal with Tatis???
Here’s the big number that no one seems to be mentioning: .462
Since his debut in May, Tatis is hitting .462 with runners in scoring position and playing .326 ball with men on base. This is including his so called slump in June. Can you say clutch? With that kind of stat, I would shift around the order and see what he could do in the #2 spot behind Reyes who always seems to be in scoring position.
